Housing & Environment
- Provide a warm, safe space such as a crate, pen, or small room for your kitten to rest and settle.
- Keep bedding soft, clean, and washable.
- Kittens should live indoors, with supervised exploration until confident and safe.
Cleaning
- Keep litter trays clean by scooping daily and fully replacing litter weekly.
- Use a safe, non-clumping litter for younger kittens.
- Wash food and water bowls daily with pet-safe detergent.
Diet & Feeding
- Feed a premium kitten food such as Royal Canin.
- Kittens should graze on dry food throughout the day with small wet food meals twice daily.
- Fresh water must always be available.
Grooming
- Brush regularly to get your kitten used to grooming.
- Short-haired kittens need less frequent brushing; long-haired breeds need more regular care.
- Trim nails gently when needed.
Exercise & Play
- Kittens are very playful—provide toys, scratching posts, and climbing trees.
- Playtime helps build coordination, confidence, and bonds with their family.
- Supervise when outdoors until fully vaccinated.
Health & Wellbeing
- Kittens must be vaccinated, wormed, and flea treated regularly.
- Look for signs of illness: sneezing, watery eyes, loss of appetite, diarrhea, or lethargy.
- Give Bird Barn a call promptly, or if we’re closed, call your local vet.
