Housing & Environment
- Provide a secure glass vivarium with good ventilation.
- Offer both a basking area (with heat lamp) and cooler shaded areas so your dragon can regulate its temperature.
- Include climbing branches, flat basking rocks, and hides for security.
Heating & Lighting
- Bearded dragons need a basking spot of 38–42°C and a cooler end around 24–28°C.
- Provide a UVB light source for 10–12 hours daily to support bone and overall health.
- Turn off lights at night to mimic natural day/night cycles.
- Replace UVB bulbs every 6–12 months as recommended, even if they still produce light.
Cleaning
- Use reptile-safe substrates such as tile, paper, or reptile carpet.
- Spot clean daily by removing waste.
- Do a full clean weekly with a reptile-safe disinfectant.
Diet & Feeding
- Feed a balanced diet of live insects (crickets, locusts, cockroaches) and fresh vegetables (e.g., leafy greens, carrots, squash).
- Dust food with calcium and vitamin supplements several times per week.
- Provide fresh, clean water daily in a shallow dish.
Exercise & Enrichment
- Allow supervised time outside the enclosure for exercise.
- Provide branches, rocks, and logs for climbing and basking.
- Enrichment helps prevent boredom and encourages natural behaviors.
Health & Wellbeing
- Watch for signs of illness: loss of appetite, lethargy, sunken eyes, wheezing, or abnormal droppings.
- Give Bird Barn a call promptly, or if we’re closed, call your local reptile vet.
