Housing & Environment
- Provide a secure glass tank or vivarium with good ventilation.
- A 60cm enclosure is suitable for one gecko; larger is needed for multiples (but avoid housing males together).
- Include hides at both the warm and cool ends of the enclosure.
- Add a humid hide with damp moss or paper towel to help with shedding.
Heating & Lighting
- Maintain a warm side of 28–32°C and a cool side around 24–26°C.
- Use an under-tank heat mat or ceramic heater to create belly heat, which geckos need for digestion.
- Provide a low-level UVB light (optional but beneficial) on a 10–12 hour cycle.
- Night temperatures can safely drop to 20–22°C.
Cleaning
- Use reptile-safe substrates such as paper towel, tile, or reptile carpet.
- Spot clean daily by removing waste.
- Do a full clean weekly with a reptile-safe disinfectant.
Diet & Feeding
- Feed a diet of live insects (crickets, mealworms, locusts, or dubia roaches).
- Dust insects with calcium at most feedings and multivitamin powder 1–2 times per week.
- Provide fresh water daily in a shallow dish.
Grooming
- Provide access to a humid hide to support proper skin shedding.
- Offer shallow warm baths if shedding problems occur.
Exercise & Enrichment
- Leopard geckos are mostly ground-dwelling—offer caves, tunnels, and climbing structures.
- Enrichment such as varied hides and textures encourages natural exploring.
Health & Wellbeing
- Watch for signs of illness: weight loss in the tail, retained shed, lethargy, or refusal to eat.
- Give Bird Barn a call promptly, or if we’re closed, call your local reptile vet.
